From Giza to Gobekli Tepe

One of the things that interest me most and inspires me to learn more and read more and research more are the enigmas around us. Those pieces of the puzzle of our story that don’t fit nicely where we are told that they should fit and the pieces that are sitting off to the side cause the ‘experts’ are not quite sure what to do with them, they cannot deny them, but there is no room for them in their solid unbending version of history.

Our story should never be set in stone, it should be allowed to grow and change and shift as we learn more and more about where we come from and how we got where we are. We must remind ourselves that we have not searched every millimeter of dirt and earth, we have not preserved every manuscript, document, monument that recorded the histories and legends of our ancestors, worse, we have destroyed more of our story than we have ever preserved. So we should never judge as if we have or know it all.

One of the most illustrious examples of this arrogance among respected experts concerns Dr. Zahi Hawass, the former Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs in Egypt. He has been pompously insistent about the Sphinx dating from ~3500BC; one of his primary arguments when someone suggests an older date due to geological finds or other evidence regarding the pit and monument, is the utter lack of any other comparable structure proven to be older not just in the region, but anywhere in the world…

Well, Dr. Hawass…..I present Gobekli Tepe, dated and peer accepted to be at least ~11,500 years old. As the pictures show it also seems to out shine the Sphinx in size and skill, both technical and artistic; thus, based on the liner procession that you claim limits the ability of the Sphinx to be older than ~3500BCE, I do believe that you stand corrected.

If you might wonder what the esteemed, Dr. Hawass, would say in a real challenge to the dating of the Sphinx with the supporting evidence of Gobekli Tepe, you can do a quick Google search for the Hawass – Hancock Debate with keywords Sphinx and Gobekli Tepe. If you follow up. please keep in mind that Dr. Hawass wielded more power than God as Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs of Egypt in the field of Egyptology, when it came to researchers seeking access to sites and artifacts and other documents and information curated and maintained by the Egyptian government and affiliated institutions and organizations.

As for what makes Gobekli Tepe so special….

First, the site, itself, is absolutely amazing, there are dozens of circular enclosures that were built over the span of centuries covering the area. There are a couple theories about the alignment of the enclosures being astronomical in nature. And a new theory that uses Pillar 43 to show the compilation of historic ‘event markers’ using astronomical alignments (the most accurate means of dating any moment in time).

Secondly, there is the craftsmanship of some of the pillars in some of the enclosures that are advanced by our standards, and phenomenal when placed in the context of how we see man 10-15,000YAG. (See above) Some of the pillars are ~3m tall and single pieces of stone. Most of the art work is protruding reliefs, in case you are wondering, it is easier to create sunken reliefs on stone as you are working a positive image as opposed to protruding reliefs that require the crafter to work in the negative.

Fertile Crescent via NASA Earth Observatory

Next, the location of the site. Gobekli Tepe is located in southeastern Turkey, or ancient Anatolia, and by some providences in the Northern reaches of the Fertile Crescent. That being said, there are things that we have believed in the past that we do not believe anymore and why is not clear. First, place names have changed over time and by those writing about previous events. Most of our histories are not written by witnesses to either the events or exact locations and times of the events. Up until the middle ages most scholars believed that most of the place names of the Old Testament were places much further north than are believed today.

An example of this is the description of the Garden of Eden, which most modern scholars and laymen alike would tell you is located in Iraq, based on the flow of the Tiger and Euphrates Rivers, some will even suggest that the location is the bottom of the Persian Gulf due to the presence of extinct and now submerged river beds there, however, the accounts tell us that the 4 rivers flowed away from the Garden, thus it is the headwaters and not the deltas that should be sought when seeking the Garden…and the headwaters of the Tiger and Euphrates are north, in the Armenian Highlands, in the East Taurus Mountains.

Neolithic Farming via radiolemberg
Neolithic Farming via radiolemberg.com

Finally, the standing theory is that once man learnt to farm, roughly 10,000YAG according to dates in the Fertile Crescent region, then he had the time and resources to become ‘civilized’ or to build and create cities and societies, yet the dates and information from Gobekli Tepe counter that theory, there does not appear to be any major or even minor organized farming at the site prior to the confirmed dates of some of the believed earliest enclosures. (Not all the known enclosures have been excavated and or dated.) Thus, it cannot be said that Gobekli Tepe was built because the local men had time on their hands due to their new farming lifestyles.

So what was the purpose of the enclosures? And why at some point after their constructions were the enclosures systematically filled in and buried? How and why were the enclosures built in the middle of nowhere void of permanent settlements? Who built the enclosures and where did their skills of construction originate? Interestingly enough, some of the more precise and technologically advanced of the enclosures seem to be the oldest ones with the skill and level of excellence declining over the subsequent centuries; this is something that some will tell you is clear at Giza as well. And questions that we will be taking up in future articles and podcasts.

Grain Silos

We’ll That’s A New One

Ben Carson
Mark Kauzlarich/Reuters

I am the first one to want to hear, new and interesting ideas about things. And I have said more than once that I do not believe that the Pyramids were ever tombs. However, I have had heard an interesting and plausible theory that after they fell out of disuse of their original purpose that it is possible that they were used for tombs. This may or may not be true. I would still argue that there was no grave goods or the debris of grave goods found in any of the chambers of the Great Pyramid when they were opened in the 19th century. But, one could counter that the grave robbers were the neatest and most through grave robbers in history. But, I digress.

The new theory that I have recently heard is from a Republican candidate for US President, Dr. Ben Carson. It is Dr. Carson’s belief that the Pyramids were built by Jacob during his time as Administrator in Egypt, to store grain for the 7 years of famine after the 7 years of abundance. His opinion was voiced publicly in a commencement speech at Andrews University, in 1998. According to reports, he bases his theory on the fact that the chambers of the Pyramid were hermetically sealed. While you would need such sealed chambers to store things such as grain for long periods of time, I think that is a whole lot of structure for such small chambers. Yes, I would have to look up the measurements and do the math to figure out the volume of each of the chambers, but still why have so much ‘bulk’ in the building and not in the ‘storage chambers’.

And why did we not find any dust and dirt from such storage? Not to mention, that brings up the same question again, what was the “Queen’s Chamber” for, it is not suitable for grain storage. While this suggestion does give one things to ponder, I do not think that there is any hope of it finding any traction nor staying power!

Causeways and Rituals in the Ancient World

Woodhenge-Wiltshire-Engla-001
Woodhenge Wiltshire England

Not far up the river Avon from Stonehenge is a less famous, but equally important site, that of Woodhenge. And the difference from Stonehenge is just like it sounds…Woodhenge was made from timbers and Stonehenge is constructed of stone.

There is a theory that believes that the difference in the construction elements of these two sites was intentional and meaningful. This theory holds that Woodhenge was constructed from timbers as symbols representative of life or the living and that Stonehenge was constructed out of stone, a non-living or ‘dead’ material and thus represented death. With new techniques and technology there have been new discoveries. One of the discoveries that connects these two sites is the finding of ‘Avenues’ leading from both sites toward the river Avon and thus connecting both. Therefore, the theory draws a conclusion that this was a funeral ritual conducted that commenced at the Woodhenge and proceeded to the Avon, down the river to the ‘Avenue’ to Stonehenge.

stonehengemap
From Woodhenge to Stonehenge

I would argue that one issue with this theory is that to date there has been NO significant finds of the remains of this ritual. Which is the same paradox that occurs in another very famous ancient site that is stated as the tomb of ancient leaders and their ‘partners’ or Queens. And the comparisons are more than just the missing dead!

Where is this other famous site! It is the Giza Necropolis. As we have shown in previous posts that ‘fact’ that the Pyramids were tombs does not hold water when common sense is applied. However, if we look in comparison, between, not just the Woodhenge-Stonehenge relation to Avon, but also the ‘Avenue of the Dead’ in Teotihuacan, which while not in proximity to a river, contained large pools of water down the center of the avenue, we find similar details.

Teotihuacancityplan
Avenue of the Dead Layout

All three sites have very specific astronomical alignments. The alignments not only correspond to the Sun rise on certain days, such as the Summer Solstice in the case of Stonehenge and Giza, as well as, Teotihuacan being aligned 15.5 degrees East of due North (possibly cause it was the position of the Sun rise ‘on the certain day of summer‘), but also the lay out or the locations and the inclusions of elements within the sites.. There are also comparisons that could be argued, between the layout of Giza with the position of elements of the skies, as well as, the correspondence between the layout of Pyramids along the Avenue of the Dead at Teotihuacan, with other elements of the skies closer to Earth.

Lower_Egypt-enFocusing on Giza, we find incredible causeways that lead to or from the river Nile, depending on your point of view or maybe on the time of year or ritual that might be being preformed. We see the alignment of the Pyramids with the cardinal points, as well as, the Sphinx facing the rising Sun on the Summer Solstice. Other comparisons include the similarity between the lay out of the Pyramids with the stars of Orion’s belt; and the shafts within the Great Pyramid that seem to point at other certain stars of mythological importance to the Ancient Egyptians. There is also the fact that another very important site of ritual of Ancient Egypt is like Woodhenge to Stonehenge, the site of Heliopolis is located down the river Nile from the Giza Necropolis. While Heliopolis was believed to be the place of worship of the Sun God, Ra, and it was the ‘Cult of Horus’ held the constellation Orion in high regard as the place of Horus in the Sky; we must remember that Orion was the celestial location of the pharaohs in their afterlives. Horus was the son of Isis and Osiris, the son and daughter of Geb and Nut, the son and daughter of Shu and Tefnet, whom were created by Ra. Thus there is not a clear separation of Ra and Horus as some scholars would imply. Furthermore, both gods are associated with rebirth, the afterlife, the cycle of life. So it would appear that there is more connection than distinction between Heliopolis and Giza, just as we see between Woodhenge and Stonehenge.

It would seem that, our linear view of time and life have blurred our ability to understand the view of our ancestors, whom seem to have understood the cycle or endlessness of existence better than we do. It, also, appears that, with regard to the commonalities between the skies and ancient monuments, past civilizations were more knowledgeable about our place in the universe than we seem to be. It is ironic that we seem to need computers and high powered telescopes to see what our ancestors saw; and that we also need advanced math and physics to contemplate the vastness that they took as just what was!

Who Built the Pyramids and When?

Giza Necropolis DrawingIn this approach we will find some fascinating details as well as some that will confound the reader. The question should come to mind; “how can it be both times?” In order to appreciate the wholeness of this aspect of our pondering we need to look at a world-wide fascination of ancient peoples. What is this world-wide phenomenon? In one word, it is Astronomy.

As we mentioned in the previous post the oldest civilized peoples all were very adept students of the stars. Their rituals and beliefs very much focused on the skies. They measured the movement of the Sun, the Moon, and the constellations. Their were Sun gods and Moon goddesses and the stars were home to the Gods. They followed the path of the Sun, the Moon and the constellations across the skies. They knew the cycles of the Sun and Moon and Earth. They could predict the eclipses and even the arrival of comets. One of the most famous stories known to us today tells of 3 magi that travel for 2 years to find a baby born under very special astronomical conditions. It has been theorized that the ‘bright star’ the magi followed to the birth place of this special child was a comet or a conjunction of planets with certain constellations, this is merely mentioned to show that the stars were of great influence across the peoples of the world in ancient times.

egypt-godsMoving forward, we know that the Egyptians believed that in Zep Tepi, or the First Time, that the Gods came to Earth and lived here and created people and lived with the people. This belief is similar to many other peoples’ beliefs about how we came to be. And it is another belief that after Zep Tepi that the Gods returned to the Stars. This belief is probably what made astronomy so important for them. In effect to study the stars or heavenly bodies was to study the Gods.

Since mainstream Egyptologists consider the Zep Tepi to be ‘just a story’, even though they used the lists of the Pharaohs in the same texts as historical reference to real persons, they have not looked seriously at the events from a historical point of view, neither have they tried to figure out when Zep Tepi occurred. This of course leaves us wondering how much of Zep Tepi is accurate and just when did Zep Tepi happen. Remember that Homer’s poems The Iliad and Odyssey were just stories until the real city of Troy was discovered in Turkey. The discovery proved that at least in regard to the description of Troy, Homer was accurate. It has since been discovered that most of the 10 cities that were mentioned in Homer’s prose were real cities and contemporaries of Troy. Why do we care about the cities in lines of Homer being real? It is proof that just because we have not found the proof of the stories of the ancients this does not mean they are not true. How does this relate to our search of Giza? Well, regarding the search for Zep Tepi, maybe it relates very well. There has been no search for Zep Tepi, but there has been questions regarding when all or part of the Necropolis was constructed.

Sphinx_partially_excavated2We have questioned the erosion of the Sphinx, as well as, its placement and the lay out of the Pyramids. The Sphinx has the body of a lion, we do not know what the original head of the creature might have been, it is the author’s belief that statements naming Kufu, Khafre or any other pharaoh as the model for the face are incorrect and without real merit. However, for now the matter of whose face is or whose face should be bore by the immortal lion is mostly irrelevant. That being said there may come a day when the discovery of the truth makes it very relevant and helps to explain the complete secrets that have thus far eluded us. If you allow for the known facts, a lion’s body and the high interest with the stars and the lion looking east, this points to an epoch of time, and that is when the Sun rested in the sign of Leo. The alignment of the Pyramids in relation to the stars of the belt of Orion, also point to the location of Orion during a specific time in the past that can also be found during the time of Leo. These 2 factors would support a time of approximately 10,500 BCE. The builders left other clues for those that are willing to listen; the very elaborate ‘ventilation’ shafts of the King’s and Queen’s Chambers ironically enough have doors, an odd thing for ventilation, and point to other specific points that would be reasonable to assume were of interest to the ancients. The points in the skies where these shafts point are to the exact locations of very important known stars. These stars that the shafts point to are Sirus, and Beta Ursa Minor from the Queen’s Chamber and Zeta Orion and Alpha Draconis from the King’s Chamber, but during the epoch of 2500BCE.

Diagram of the Great PyramidToday, in our time of super computers and high tech gadgets and programs and knowledge we have software that will show us the skies for any time that we want. If you want to know how the heavens looked over your house in the time of the dinosaurs you can and if you want to know what you might see in 50 or 100 years you can see that as well. What an amazing and wonderful thing! However, we have yet to find any similar technological items from ancient times; therefore, how did the builders of the Giza Necropolis know either what the skies looked like in 10,500BCE or how they would look in 2,500BCE? Is it not interesting that both times seem to be marked in the eternal monuments. What was so very important about the 2 different times in history for the ancient Egyptians? If the builders were in 10,500BCE how did they know where the stars would have been 8,000 years in the future? Yet, if the builders were of 2,500BCE, how did they know where Orion was located 8,000 years prior; and how did they know the measurements of the earth?

Meeting the Ancient Egyptians

Part 2

egypt-gods

In our last post we showed a very visual concept of duality. We illustrated the similarities between the placements of the Pyramids on the ground with the stars of Orion’s belt in the sky. Also, illustrated in their burial practices, was their belief of life being almost the same in the afterlife as on Earth. Now we look more deeply into their advancement as a civilization by the time of the Pyramids. We have mentioned, if we allow for the mainstream experts to be wholly accurate not only did the ancient Egyptians become some of the finest master builders within 500 years of the birth of their civilization, they also became the most advanced mathematicians and astronomers as well. Their knowledge would rival ours today even with our super computers. Still think it is possible for man to do all that in 500 years? Well let’s explore some figures and equations and concepts.

giza

The Giza plateau was not chosen cause it was a lovely flat open plain suitable for enormous building projects it wasn’t. However, its location seems to have been very specific. Math is considered the universal language, it is thought that no mater where one originates in the universe the rules and laws and language of math remain the same. I would hold that in general that concept is accurate, but there is still the challenge of writing an equation using Roman numerals or Arabic numbers and it being instantly understood by one whom knows neither writing style. That being said one way around that would be to show equations in a manner that ALL would arrive at the same answer regardless of their writing method. What exactly am I saying? Well lets use the Pyramids as an example, an illustrated example:

The bases of the Pyramids are aligned almost perfectly to their cardinal points, with deviation of less than 3 arc minutes. The plateau is located less than 29 seconds from ‘astronomical’ latitude 30 degrees, which is one-third the distance from the Equator to the North Pole. The original height of the Great Pyramid bears the same relationship to its base perimeter as any circle’s circumference to its radius; 2 pi. Another astonishing figure is the ratio of the dimensions of the Pyramid to the dimensions of the earth; the scale is 1:43,200. Ex: h=481.3949 ; p=3023.16 ….. h43,200=3938.685 (within 11 miles of polar radius) p43,200=24734.94 (within 170 miles of true equatorial circumference or less than 0.75% error)

There is also the location of the Pyramids in relation to the world’s habitable landmass, it is the center point. The corners are not more than a 3 minute 33 second deviation from 90 degrees. The sides are not more than 10.49 inches in length variation.  The Causeway of the Great Pyramid runs 14 degrees to the north and the Causeway of the second Pyramid runs 14 degrees to the south. The last number I will throw out for you this time is that the corridors of the Great Pyramid are set on 26 degree slopes, all of them, except for the ‘well shaft’, which is vertical and the ‘ventilation’ shafts which are their own enigma.

herodotus_world_map-en-svgNow lets ponder all this new information in relation to the ‘known facts’ according to the Egyptologists. The society while it was advanced stayed within the confines of the northeast of the African continent and interacted with peoples that were located in the area now referred to as the Middle East, it is also thought that Egypt was aware of and dealt with the contemporary cultures of the Mediterranean Sea. In their time that is considered the extent of the ‘known world’. However, as we have shown above in our numbers, the builders of these tombs of pharaohs, were aware of the size of the earth precisely as well as their relation to the whole of the world. If the Egyptians were the first civilization and had only become ‘civilized’ 500 years before the building of the Pyramids, are we also to assume that in the tiny 500 year span they also managed to explore and measure and document at least in numbers, the whole world? The credit for circumnavigation is currently given to Magellan millennia later. If it took Europeans building off the knowledge of prior cultures over 1500 years to achieve circumnavigation then how can the experts not ponder the 500 year old Egyptian culture’s knowledge of the same information?

Lower_Egypt-en

The number system that appears to be used in the building of the structures, as well as, the lay out of the whole of the Necropolis is base 60. Base 60 is such an ancient number system that its true origins are not known, even today.

Giza Pyramid Blocks via PBS NovaThe size of the blocks used in the buildings are of such a size that even today most engineers would prefer to deny the contract than to try to overcome the obstacles of construction, even with modern machinery and technology. Yet, the experts claim that basic hand-tools and slave labor created the enduring monuments. We are to assume that they were able to build these massive structures, one of which, contains a natural bedrock mound that was encased within the lower building, using only line of sight and primitive means. According to some of the experts we can throw out the slave labor and say skilled craftsmen, but again with no more than 500 years of knowledge at their back. Others say they had large sawing ‘machines’ but these were almost as much construction as the structures. Then also you have the theory that ramps were used to pull the blocks into place, yet there is no mention or description in any text or historical reference nor is there any archaeological remains of these immense ramps that would have again required almost as much building as the structure themselves. How is it that the theories of the experts, which seem to have more holes than a really good swiss cheese, have stood the test of time? Just some more thoughts to ponder until next time.

Meeting the Ancient Egyptians

Part 1

giza necropolisWe have visited the Pyramids and the Sphinx, but before we leave the Giza Necropolis there are other questions to ponder. These are questions that not only span the skies, but delve into the sands beneath the structures on the plaza. We have discussed the Pyramids, as well as, the Sphinx independently. Now we will look at the plaza as a whole. We will take into account the idea that is the basis for Egyptian beliefs, duality; as it is above so it is below. We will wonder about their fascination with the heavens. We will ponder the importance and mystique of the priest/priestess class. Thus we will attempt to attain a greater understanding of the beginnings of one of the most glorified and romanticized societies in human history.  Our goal is to attempt to understand what was Egypt and thus what was an Egyptian.

Beginning with their concept of duality, we will attempt to understand just how the Egyptian saw thyself in relation to their culture and their world. Their religion was a part of every aspect of their everyday lives. It is in the religious practices and belief that we can find an illustration of their concept of duality. In simple terms, the Egyptians believed that all things on Earth were reflection of things in the sky. The Egyptians also believe in an afterlife, not only was that afterlife in the skies, it was almost more important than life on Earth.

When understanding their concept of duality, several aspects of their culture and beliefs illustrate clearly for us their thinking. In understanding their funerary rituals, we see that they believed that the body was needed again in the afterlife. This is supported by the fact that Egyptians preserved their bodies as completely as possible in death, including preserving the organs removed in the mummification process, apparently to be returned to the body for the journey to the afterlife. It was also common for burial to include everyday items that would be needed in the afterlife, such as food, clothes, brushes, furniture and even, based on the wealth and or position of the individual, pets, concubines, and in some cases chariots. The Egyptians also believe that what you did in your life on Earth would carry over, or at least the consequences, to the afterlife. There were trials or judgments that the dead had to pass in order to enter the afterlife. In life the Pharaohs were considered as either Gods or demi-gods or descended from the Gods and in the afterlife they were to ascend to the Stars and live with the Gods as gods in their own right.

What does all this have to do with the Giza Necropolis? It is believed by some to be a physical interpretation of the trails or judgments and the journey to the afterlife. It is also believed by some to be the physical representation of an exact moment in time by mirroring the sky as it was in a specific time in the ancient past.

2020-03-28 18.35.10 cassisrandomthoughts.blogspot.com 07e0be427d70Orion-in-Oct-1024x805

In looking at the map of the plaza above and the picture of the constellation Orion to the right you can see a similarity between the 3 Pyramids and the 3 starts that make up the belt of the hunter. The observer can see that the first 2 larger pyramids can be bisected by a straight line as can the 2 brighter stars of the hunter’s belt. If you continue the line it will strike the northwest corner of the smaller third pyramid, which is the exact same placement as the smaller or dimmer third star in Orion’s belt.

2014-dec-3-orions-belt-aldebaran-siriusWhy would the ancients possibly use the belt of Orion for the placement of their pyramids? One could say that such an alignment would serve to remind them of their origins. As there are several references to the Gods coming from and returning to their own world, a world that is located within the constellation. Another theory is that the line actually points to the star Sirus. Sirus is also a star that is referenced in ancient lore as the location for the origins of the Gods. This star chart shows more clearly the alignment of the 3 pyramids found on the plaza. Thus showing how the smaller third star is offset slightly. Is this just coincidence, or was this planned? It seems to be almost too perfect of a match for that to be the case. If you look a little further afar from the alignment of the pyramids you find the Nile flowing from its mountains head to the delta in the north. While keeping in mind the heavens in the time of the ancients, the Nile resembles the heavenly river of life, the Milky Way.

In looking very briefly at the Egyptian concept of  duality we have seen that Egyptians were great students of the heavens. And held that humanity had a great connection to the heavens in order to have connection to their Gods and their afterlife. There are many other illustrations of their concepts of duality, including their attitudes regarding genders. But those are for you to explore on your own, at least for the time being.

Exploring the Necropolis

After our visit to the Pyramids we will wander over to an even more mysterious enigma. This one as regal and royal in time and history as any pharaoh. Appearing to have been craved right out of the limestone that encloses him; the Sphinx rises like an immortal warrior protecting ancient secrets. The ancient secrets are for another post, for now we focus on the warrior itself.

With the body of nature’s king of beasts and the head of a man, supposedly a specific man; the Sphinx has been impressing visitors and conquerors alike since time immortal it seems. The first modern excavation of the sight was in 1817 supervised by the Italian Captain Giovanni Battista Caviglia, this uncovered the structure to the chest. Latter excavations finally fully exposed the grand beast in the early 20th century. The whole structure is 240 feet (73 meters) long and 66 feet (20 meters) high.

sphinxIf we accept the dates given by modern Egyptologists, the Sphinx was carved out of his limestone ridge circa 2500BCE. The accepted date for the beginning of Egyptian culture, by the same experts is circa 3000BCE. This means that ancient Egyptians went from being wandering hunter gathers, with no civilization, to one of the most enduring societies in histories, with such precise construction methods that their works still stand, in less than 500 years. That is an astonishingly amazing endeavor. Some can say, look at what we accomplished in the last 100 years; and while it is certainly true that humans have achieved some extraordinary strides in the last century, we did not begin the 20th century lacking aspects of civilization, at least not technological ones.

Some of the earliest researchers of the Giza Necropolis, whom seem to have had much more open minds and sought truth and knowledge over fame and fortune, believed that the Sphinx and other construction within the plaza area predated the traditional construction dates. However, as is the case more and more, if the ‘evidence’ does not fit the stated ‘facts’ put forth by the experts then the ‘evidence’ cannot be trusted or is not accurate. One such example, the Dream Stella, which was almost a millennium after the time of Khafre, and which is no longer complete and cannot be studied, supposedly stated that the Sphinx was linked to Khafre and is accepted by most modern Egyptologists as proof of their date, as well as, the builder. However, there is the Inventory Stella, also a much later artifact, which states that the Sphinx was already buried in the sand before the reign of Khafre. Since this contradicts the mainstream ‘facts’ it is dismissed as Late Period historical revisionism and therefore not trustworthy.

This attitude that certain artifacts of a specific type are proof if they match the experts’ story, but are not trustworthy if they do not, can be seen in all archaeological areas of exploration. If you look you can even see that within certain sources the ‘experts’ will take only the lines or words that support ‘facts’ as being accurate or trustworthy and the bits that don’t fit are just fluff or added fanciful decoration to enhance the status of the rulers or people or event. The wonder is that these ‘experts’ not only manage to maintain their status or even increase it, they have the power to destroy the credibility of any whom question the blatant whims of the ‘experts’.

South Enclosure Wall via forums grahamhancock.com

Are there more scientific methods for dating the age of our immortal guardian? Of course there are, however, there is controversy there as well. It is pretty clear that most ‘experts’ in one field of study NEVER want an ‘expert’ from another field to encroach on their turf. And the Sphinx is one of those areas. The fact is that the Sphinx is carved from limestone, this means that geologists should have some knowledge of the structure as a whole, including the age. The problem is that some geologists that have studied the Sphinx from a purely geologic point of view, since that is their area, state that our immortal guardian has stood the test of time that would make the title of immortal or timeless apropos.

Their foundation for stating that the Sphinx could be much much older than Egyptologists claim, is that the weathering evident on the enclosure walls of the creature is not from wind and sand, which would have been much smoother and horizontal, but from water, specifically rainfall and rain run-off. The amount of rainfall and the time over which it would have needed to accrue means that the climate of the area could not be arid desert. This previous statement is one of disagreement among geologists as well as paleoclimatologists. Another theory, by other geologists is that it was salt crystallization that created the ‘ridges’ of erosion. However, it seems clear that the whole of the theories of geologists that have studied the warrior and will actually speak up about their opinions seem to follow the same conclusion that he is older than the date given by Egyptologists.

Sphnix via Daily Mail
via Daily Mail

The last enigma regarding our immortal warrior is his head. The general consensus regarding the face/head of the Sphinx is that it is the likeness of Khufu. In its current state, this may actually be an accurate statement. Yet, there are differences between the known statue of Khufu located in the Cairo Museum and the current Sphinx face. Furthermore and more important to our point of view, there are doubts to any logical mind that the current face of the Sphinx was the original face fashioned by the creators. What is the proof for such a claim? Proportion and resilience; if you look at all the carvings and statues left from the Ancient Egyptians their creations are amazingly perfect in their scale and design. Even the body of the Sphinx is amazing in its design, if age has diminished its perfection. Such care and skill would not have been limited to the body and ignored with the most important part of the sculpture, the head. All one has to do is to look at the profile of the Sphinx to see that the current head is small and imperfect for the body. The stone material is harder limestone from that of the body and should be more durable. The face seems to have sustained a lot more damage than the body, some of that could be attributed to the fact that the head was visible over a greater amount of time than the body. There are also claims that Napoleon’s men used the head for target practice.
It seems that the Riddle of the Sphinx may never give up its secrets. But that may be the purpose of the grand beast, to encourage and entice us to seek answers and to ask questions, to wonder and ponder our past and in doing so maybe find our future.

The Journey Begins

There are many ancient sites and artifacts that are known the world over. Some of these sites are mysterious and shrouded in wonder and enigmas, while others seem to be fully and or completely explained, at least according to the experts. Starting our ramblings through the moments of our history at one of the most recognizable locales on the planet seems appropriate for our journey.

giza-pyramids_24757_600x450We believe in labeling and ranking things in our world to give them importance and value. This act in and of itself seems simple and harmless enough; however, when we list things and rank things we are actually diminishing their importance in our world and limiting our understanding as well. There is a saying that we all have talents, things we excel in, however, if the fish is judged by how well he climbs a tree, then he will always feel stupid. By judging places and things against hard-fast, unbending limits that the egos of experts place in our knowledge banks it is not the sites and cultures and artifacts we make ‘stupid’, but ourselves. By accepting without question the words of the textbooks and experts we voluntarily shut ourselves into the dark closets of ignorance.

Returning to the start of our journey; the Giza Necropolis is the site of the Great Pyramids of Egypt, as well as, the Sphinx and other temples and archaeological finds that have yet to be fully understood. For this post we will focus on the Pyramids themselves. There are 3 great or grand pyramids in close proximity that are the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It is a standard propagated fact that these pyramids were the tombs for the Pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. It has been the practice of mainstream Egyptologists to criticize, ostracize and black-ball any researcher that does not hold to this archaic and suspect view.

Giza Necropolis DrawingIt has been one of the greatest mysteries, to my personal understanding, that academics and researchers do not seek the truth and knowledge, they seek fame and tenure. If these so called experts really believed their own opinions regarding the pyramids, then why not let every “out there,” “off the wall,” “crazy” person with a “wild” and “delusional” idea research it and study the site and fall flat on their face in the error of their own study. Instead any person that has any view that deviates from the idea that the pyramids are tombs is not even granted access to the site for research purposes.

Ironically, you do not need access to the site to call into question the statement that the Pyramids are tombs. First, there are burial mounds located all over the world, dirt mounds that have served as the final resting places for the deceased. That being said, there has not to this point ever been a body of a deceased found in the middle of any funeral pyramid structure any where in the world. You can try to point to priests and ‘kings’ that have been found in some American pyramids, but all their entombments were under said pyramids or added within them and the pyramids were not constructed for the purpose of their burials, instead the entombment was either repurposing of temples or after-thought. But our focus is not on ALL pyramids, just the 3 at Giza.

According to mainstream Egyptologists, most pharaohs have been found buried in the Valley of the Kings. This is not a valley full of pyramids, nor is it the earliest or latest of the pharaohs. What I mean is that the Pharaohs of the Pyramids were from the 4th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Yet, building pyramids was not happening prior, even if you consider the Step Pyramid at Saqqara of Dojser, neither was it continued after the fact. Some Egyptologists might tell you this was due to grave robbers, but that contradicts the religious beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. It is very hard to say with any certainty when certain tombs might have been raided. It is highly unlikely that the tombs were raided during the Dynastic periods, but were instead violated later by those peoples whose culture did not value the beliefs of the past times. The point being that the likelihood of just 3 Pharaohs, 4 if you count Djoser, building Pyramids for tombs and not being followed by subsequent Pharaohs when all other aspects of society remained virtually unchanged is slim to none.

If we allow for the study of the possibility of the Pyramids being those of our 3 Pharaohs, why did these pharaohs deviate so far from the norm before them and after them. What makes the burial rites and practices of our 3 so unique? Why would they basically shun their religion and culture and immortality by shunning the very things that would insure their place in the afterlife. If one only looks at the tombs found in the Valley of the Kings and see the names and images on the walls of tombs along with the verses of the Book of the Dead and the Book of the Gates, they provided the tomb resident with spells and advice to help get them to the afterlife. This information is missing from the King’s Chambers in the Pyramids of our 3 Pharaohs. So if the pyramids were their actual tombs you must consider that they lived such perfect lives they did not need any help facing their judgements or they snubbed the religion in death, that kept them in power in life. Both of those theories seems highly unlikely.

We can put this theory aside if you have not started questioning the ‘truth’ yet and move to the next questionable fact regarding the Pyramids. Let’s assume for the sake of mainstream argument that these Pyramids were tombs. One of the main reasons that the Great Pyramid is considered Khufu’s is that his name is found on a ‘plaque’ near the Pyramid itself. Now if having your name on a building makes you the builder of said building, then George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln just became the most prolific builders in America. For their names adorn more public buildings than most any other notable leaders in American History. But more importantly, it was the practice of the Egyptians to bury with their Pharaohs, everything they would need in their afterlife. This matters since the afterlife was a mirrored existence of life on Earth. As it is above so it is below. Everything that one would need to be of their status in the afterlife was provided in their burial for their possession as needed. This included not only treasures, the desire of tomb robbers, but also mundane items for life, foods and daily basics, not so much valued by our robbers. Once again, these remnants were also missing from the burial chambers. Not even the debris of broken shards of pottery or spilled seeds remained after the robbing, thus inferring that they were also the neatest grave robbers in history.

So it seems that if we are to maintain and or accept that the Pyramids were tombs for our 3 Pharaohs, we have to accept several unsupported and irrational facts about them. First, that all Pharaohs that followed were incredibly humble and did not have a desire to leave their mark more permanently on the world. Secondly, that our Pharaohs either lived perfect sin free lives or snubbed their society’s belief in the afterlife. Thirdly, that they did not need any of the trivial things that ordinary Egyptians needed in their afterlife like food.

I hope that some of these presented views made you think and wonder. Ask questions and seek answers and do not believe that just because someone has letters, even the whole alphabet, after their name they are smarter than you. You can make the next big discovery just as surely as any expert, maybe even more so if your mind is open and your eyes are seeking.
