I hear the silence it is so very loud,
It vibrates ’round me like a bomb.
I hear the silence it is so very quiet,
It seeps in every corner of my being.

I hear the silence yelling from within,
I hear the silence deafening all around,
I hear the silence crushing everything,
I hear the silence screaming, screaming
I hear the silence.

I see the darkness it does not end,
It goes on and on like an empty void,
I see the darkness surrounding the flicker,
It glares hungrily at the center of me.

I see the darkness the black hole growing,
I see the darkness the abyss within,
I see the darkness seeping into corners,
I see the darkness staring back at me,
I see the darkness.

What NoOne Noticed

Millions of little shards,
Scattered among the sand,
Drifting with dirt,
Blown away on the wind,
Washed away with the tides.

All the little pieces –
That use to fit together,
All the little pieces –
No longer matching,
All the little pieces –
All that is left.

Gone is the heart,
Gone is the mind,
Gone is the soul,
Gone, gone, gone.

Pink shredded ribbons hang,
Blood rivers flowing
From the emptiness,
The gaping hole.

Paleness spreading,
Shadows forming,
Light leaving,
Night consuming.

Ghosts and Goblins and Ghouls….Oh, My!!!

Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow

It is that time of year again! The air is crisp and the leaves are turning colors. The harvest is ready and the feasts are being prepared!

Do you have your pumpkins ready for carving? Are your treats handy to prevent the tricks? Are your offerings for the spirits and your ancestors your best?
I hope so!

Have you ever truly wondered why we do the things that we do during this time of year? Our rituals, practices, and stories and where they all come from?

I do. So, I thought being the season, that we might look at how our ancients saw this time of year and how that still lingers in our current society and rituals.

are you afraid of the darkWhy do we tell ghost stories?
What did the ancients think of ghosts?
What did ancients do with their dead?
Why they did the things they did?
What did ancients think about death?
What about what happens after death?

As for this time of year…. What did our ancestors think about the cycle of the seasons? What did the ancients think of the coming darkness and cold? What did they think about the coming winter? What did having long periods of darkness through fall and winter mean to them? How did shorter days impact their daily lives during autumn and winter?

When thinking about the ‘holidays’ of this time of year what was the purpose? Why did the ancients celebrate the harvest? Why did our ancestors honor and celebrate their ancestors? Were they guided from loyalty and love or was it fear that moved them?

A pack of ghouls ravage their repulsive repast.

Speaking of fear…..Who told the first ghost story? When and why was it told? How long have we believed in ghosts? When and where did we create demons? Who was the first ghost? Who was the first demon? Why do we seem to like being scared? Why do we believe in ghouls and goblins and other spectres? Have we always been afraid of the dark?

Do you know…..Why we ‘Trick-or-Treat’? What is a Jack-O-Lantern? What happens on All Hallow’s Eve? Why are bonfires so popular this time of year? What about bobbing for apples? Why do we wear costumes and take to the streets for treats and parties? Is the Boogie Man more active this time of year?

I think it will be fun, if maybe a little scary, to study the spooks and haunts and bumps in the night over the next few weeks so that we might be better in the spirit of the season…….least the spirits be not pleased with us!!!

Happy Haunts!

The darkness moves in,
The darkness surrounds,
The darkness envelopes,
The darkness conquers.

The silence falls,
It covers everything,
The silence grows,
It pushes out all sound.

The darkness beckons the silence,
It bids her enter for the season,
The darkness shelters the silence,
It wraps her in solitude and doubt.

The silence cries out,
Searching every corner,
Tracing every wall,
Wishing waiting wanting.

The darkness takes,
It pulls from deep within,
The darkness steals,
Leaving her hungry and thirsty.

The silence surrenders,
No more tears
No more dreams
No more wishes

Darkness takes her
Silence gives
Darkness consumes her
Silence relinquishes

The union made,
The joining complete,
The surrender final,
It is done.

We all have those moments when the darkness takes over and the silence remains… being consumed by them at times may give you some comfort at a weird level… but as long as there is love… next day always seems brighter or at least when you hear that voice… the amount of love i have inside is sufficient to keep you warm and happy for the rest of our lives. Stormy Day

Waves crashing
Heart pounding
Grey and black above
Grey and black below

Winds whipping
Rain slicing
Hot and cold outside
Hot and cold inside

Clouds rolling
Tides flowing
Ebbs and eddies morning
Ebbs and eddies evening

Hands gripping
Hair whipping
Cliff edge looming
Cliff edge calling

Tears streaming
Lips trembling
Heart’s cry screaming
Heart’s cry ceasing

Hope fleeing
Dreams dying
Soul source bleeding
Soul source fading
