This is to honor my dad and all the cops out there!
For the last 20 years I watched you wake up and leave,
You’d put on the clothes, then roll up your sleeves.
You’d put on a smile and wear your golden shield.
Where do you go? To play on the field!
For the last 20 years I heard you say “Why?”
“God, these people did not deserve to die!”
You’d be there , first on the line,
To save a life , or put up a sign.
For the last 20 years you never shared your dreams,
Do you actually sleep or it just seems?
You’d get up, again, in the middle of night,
“C’mon, let’s go! Two dead in a fight!”
For the last 20 years I listened to you and learned,
I remember the days when you were mad or concerned.
You gave it all when nobody asked,
You are the one that no one surpassed.
For the last 20 years you’ve been the most amazing guide,
I want you to know you’re my strength and my pride.
Days are passing by and times will be hard,
When you grow older, I’ll be your Guard.
